Asbestos Risk Management

Asbestos Risk Management

Managing the asbestos estate across a national network of ageing buildings required a specialist application tailored to government regulations around the categorisation, handling and disposal of asbestos.

The problem

A large organisation with a wide-range of properties and structures throughout the UK needed to record, monitor and report upon any asbestos present at over 200,000 locations.

The state and resulting risk of all asbestos found within the estate must be recorded, and future surveys scheduled to check whether there has been a change in risk. Surveying can be undertaken by one of a number of external contractors, each with their own IT systems.

The estate is broken down into different levels of sub-units and reporting must take in to account each area.

The solution

The implemented solution uses an analysis and scoring engine along with many other configurable Digital Symphony modules. Customised algorithms calculate the risk and recommended actions for each instance of asbestos and for locations overall.

Digital Symphony's data transfer suite allows contractors to upload their own surveys and the mapping tool converts them to the required format. A broad set of customisable reports have been built using the reporting engine, and the Digital Symphony authorisation suite controls what each user can access and do, based on factors including role, geography and specialism.

The verdict

The robust yet configurable nature of Digital Symphony allowed a large-scale, dynamic solution to be implemented. Where highly niche requirements exist, Digital Symphony can be combined with bespoke code or tools to provide a seamless product.

The provided solution can be easily extended and adapted to changes in regulation or user-base and helps the user to remain compliant and safe.
